Sketcy blogging

We will be away for three days so blogging will be sketchy and sporadic. If you are in San Antonio, let us know. You will find us at one of many Mexican food places.

Trim Water

March 29, 2008

As promised, the CEO of Trimwater sent me a case of his product. If you don’t know I swore off Vitamin water because of the high caloric content. And I promised I would blog about my take on the Trimwater product.

First off, Vitamin Water is about the only thing I have to compare with so my review might be a bit slanted because I am not comparing and contrasting several beverages.

My first bottle this morning is the passion fruit berry. I think it tastes pretty good. If I buy this stuff, I will for sure get some of this flavor. I am not keen on the pink label. Kind of girly so I will have to pour it into another bottle or something. Yes I am in touch with my manhood. But I don’t like drinking out of pink labeled bottles.

As far as taste, it’s actually pretty good. I think it tastes a bit better than vitamin water. There is a small after taste but it’s not a bad after taste.

For this 20 fl oz bottle, there is a total of 10 calories, 3 g of carbs which are from sugar. So not a bad ride on the fatty intake. What is not so obvious is that it is flavored with Splenda, which I think is a good thing. I found that information here. It does contain 50 milligrams of caffeine. I am not scientist. So I don’t know if thats an ok amount or if I am about to bounce off the wall. By comparison, an 8 oz shot of Red Bull contains 80 milligrams of caffeine.

As far as price, a case costs $29.95. It doesn’t say how many are in a case on the web site. The case we received was 8 bottles, so I can only assume then that you get 8 in a case. That means each bottle is $3.75. Kind of high. Compare that to Vitamin water that comes in around $2.50 a bottle. This is purely unofficial as the price I found was on Amazon, though product was out of stock whatever that is. But store price seems to be about that.

I am not interested in this product from a dieting perspective. I am looking for a beverage that tastes good and doesn’t tank me up with all kinds of stuff that is not good for me overall. I need to get off sweet tea and am looking for a different beverage to take it’s place. But I do think this beverage is targeted towards those dieting as the ingredients are more in line with that kind of product.

So, overall, I think this is a great beverage. I like it. The price scares me though. I am hoping I have the case quantity wrong. And I am sure the CEO will probably comment here and I hope he does because I am merely reviewing this product and giving my thoughts. Dialogue is so great!!! At any rate, I am gonna finish this case off and make a decision as to whether the product is worth the cost.

A big thanks to the TrimWater people for hooking me up with a free case.

Open Letter To Various

March 29, 2008

My Space – Dear myspace. I am cancelling my account. Why? Because I am so fed up with receiving friends requests from whoever is peddling porn site links. Honestly, I get one or two of those a day. And I also get tired of hearing whatever music someone has loaded on their page. Fix those things and I might come back, but only to have a presence there for our church.

Major League Baseball – Still not watching you on TV. Your inability to clean up the steroids issue frankly irritates me. In addition, the scandals with current and former players has blackened the eyes of your sport. So I take a pass on the whole season.

Trace Adkins – Wow. I have gained a lot of respect for you after watching you on Celebrity Apprentice. Thanks for reminding us that it’s ok to love America and it’s ok to be a straight shooter.

Airline Industry – You scare me. You are grounding planes, cancelling flights, getting fined by the FAA for safety violations. I realize money is tight and fuel costs are up. But for the love of all that is airborn, please PLEASE stay focused. I will be flying sooner or later.

Men who pee on toilet seats – Honestly, if you can’t lift a lid on a toilet seat before you pee, you should be castrated. We have advanced in our social graces. If you can’t handle this one simple thing, go find a dang tree. Sheesh.

Parking in the wrong places – If it’s not marked for parking, it’s not a parking space. That means if there is a red painted curb, IT’S A FIRELANE. You could cause an accident cuz you are too lazy to park your dang car and walk ten more feet. Gimme a break. I know you may be waiting for your kid to come out, or you just need to pop in to get something quick, but you are not any more special than anyone else. You are not elite. So park your car and be like the rest of society.

Andrea Bocelli – You are perhaps one of the most coolest cats on the planet. I want your voice to jump in my throat. Amazing. I want to meet you some day and do a duet with you.

Crosswalk.com – I am not a big fan of the new layout of the Bible when you are reading a chapter. Sorry. Just not thrilled with the new look. But it’s totally free so I have no room to complain.

My wife – I think you are amazing. If I saw you for the first time today, I would ask you to marry me again like I did on our very first date. But since we are already married, maybe we could just go steady.

Old Guys

March 29, 2008

I am just gonna say it. I think the church has gotten into the habit of discarding old guys. We think that the young hip guys who wear jeans and cool shirts and have churches running in the thousands are all the rage. They are. There are some great young guns on the scene tearing it up for Jesus. But honestly, the voice of the elder is still to me one of the most powerful voices on the planet. I just listened to a few messages by some older guys and they simply rocked me. And it led me to examine some things.

Where would Saul or David have been without Samuel
Where would Joshua have been without Moses
Where would Moses have been without Jethro

You get the picture. I think the universal church is in desperate need for fathers in the faith. Mentors. Older wiser people who understand how to weather storms and avoid the latest fads and understand how to stand firm in the face of adversity. We need older men and women who understand what it means to be committed to something greater than themselves. How will we survive without embracing the elder brother and elder sister? How?

I am praying that our church embraces the elder. I am praying that we desire to grow up and mature into the elders that have a voice of maturity and a ministry of mentoring.

I can hear the skeptic now. Old people just don’t get it. Old people are in the past. Old people are slow. Come back in 30 years and repeat that in my ear please. And I will be happy to repeat it back to you and see if you can hear me.
